MMA H.E.A.T.’s Karyn Bryant was at The Palm Restaurant in Downtown LA where UFC Interim LHW Champ Jon Jones held a media luncheon. When asked which fight he was last nervous about, Jon admits that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson intimidated him and explains why. He also shares a funny story where he acted like a fanboy around Rampage much to his own chagrin.

    I met jon Jones at an after party when he became champ the first time…the most humble kid I ever met. His shoulders were so broad, freakish almost….and I was called a freak cuz my shoulders were broad. I see why his nick name is bones. I was taller but his reach was longer or so it seemed…but again totally humble and great full to be blessed with his title as champion…and he deserves it. Much love n respect for life

    Lol, it's hard for me to watch JBJ interviews without wondering how much truth are in his statements. It's obvious he tries so hard to curate an image for himself (composed, well-spoken, charismatic & funny) when in reality this dude is a complete psycho that's constantly one wrong word away from getting unhinged. He is fake AF. THAT being said, JBJ might be my favorite fighter of all time (PEDs or not.) Dude was/is an absolute monster, creative as fuck with his use of elbows e.g. those dangerous ass spinning elbows, unparalleled striking in the LHW division, with a proven, solid ground game. Much like how Michael Jordan is my favorite basketball player of all time, although he was an absolute asshole of a human being. I mean, these two were truly despicable people – but that's what makes them SO great. Anyways.. in my eyes, it's between JBJ and Silva as my favorite fighters of all time. Can't forget Silva, prime Silva was fucking special. However, i have no problem saying i think a prime JBJ will SMASH prime Silva. And Silva is unanimously & objectively on the Mt. Rushmore of UFC fighters.. that's just how great JBJ was. For those curious, this is my top 5 UFC fighters all time (in no particular order): Spider Silva, Bones Jones, GSP, Mighty Mouse, & DC. The only person that might be questionable is DC, although he should be a lock if he beats Miocic in this upcoming fight. The other 4 should be unanimous.

    "even though I am the better martial artist" what a wanker. Jones would have been destroyed back in the golden age of liddell, rampage, wanderlei, belfort. The only times he's looked worried in a fight was when he fought a washed up machida and rampage, who in their prime were capable of ripping his head off.

    everytime I hear a Jon Jones vid, I scroll down and all these yahoos try to discredit him by bringing up juicing. by rule juicing is cheating, I'm not arguing that. juicing enhances physical performance. you can not discredit the athletes, gifts, skills, and work ethic. you can juice till your head explodes, it alone will not get you a world title and defending it repeatedly. juicing or not you still have to have the skills. athletes of his caliber juice alot, they just do not get caught.

      You twist my words. Oblique kicks are geared towards hyperextending the knee. This is the same technique used for submissions. But with one key difference; you can tap to a submission when it goes over a certain threshold.

      So there is a reason most fighters don't use those kicks. In the end it's a game where longevity is still important. Yes getting knocked out and getting subbed will hurt you as well. But not being able to walk takes you out of the game completely.

      Well please give me an example of a fighter because I don't know any who lost their chin after one knock out.

      And not knockouts aren't healthy, but they don't take you out of the sport indefinitely. Whereas if you can't walk anymore because ligaments have been damaged in your knee you can't fight ever.

      The heavyweights all have weak chins if you look at their KO power. The top ten is filled with people who've had highlight reel knockouts and got knocked out themselves. So that isn't really a comparison.

      As you can see in this interview Rampage says he was never the same after the fight. Have you ever seen soccer players and how they get tackled from being and lose the ability to play? It's the same here. You hurt those ligaments and you're done. Of course they keep on fighting as they want to make money (it's the same reason Ali's head wasn't working properly at the end; he fought past his prime).

      But we're talking about your stupid comparison to a kneebar submission. Here are the basics: tapping to strikes is only after you've taken damage, tapping to a submission is to prevent injury. And in reference to your latest comment: citing football as expertise for how someone can get injured in MMA is flawed in more ways than one; and punches and kicks to the nose and skull are attacks that can be defended against, whereas push kicks to the knee aren't as easily defended, once again you draw poor comparisons.

      Jon's eye pokes and other fouls have likely helped him win more than a few fights to be sure, but your second statement isn't exactly true. Quinton personally thought that the best Rampage was the Rampage who fought Jon Jones. More objectively and likely, it was probably Rampage just over his peak but still the height of his skill, experience and danger. Physically he'd already begun to wane. Peak Rampage was essentially 2007-2011, coinciding with his principle stint in the UFC, fortunately.

      +Ross Boss Yeah I know. But it from what I've read, it's seems most competitors consider it a cheap move. Just google "push kick knee". Rampage said it messed up his knee really bad, needing surgery. I don't think it should be part of MMA competition. They're not supposed to fight to the death or to seriously injure the other person, it's just to see whose better. Imagine if everyone went in there and just did that, push kicks all day. I don't want these guys injured for months and do surgery, not being able to compete and make money. Just my opinion.

      +Ross Boss We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. To me, this is a martial arts competition, a sport not "dog fighting" or "cock fighting". The thing about breaking arms, people have the chance to "tap out" and avoid injury. IMO the point isn't to kill or destroy your opponent, but to find out who is bettter and these guys are tough. Gracies let their arms break before even thinking of tapping out. It seems like the general consensus of fighters out side of Jackson's camp regard the kick as dirty. I know that opinion differs from yours, but if you have a min please just google "push kick to knee" and see what some of the fighters think of it. I'm just a random guy who loves MMA, been watching since early PRIDE events.

      +ThatSkaterJustice I disagree. If Jones isn't better than ever, he'll lose. If he even fights the way he did in the first fight, he loses let alone how he performed or didn't perform in his last fight.

      I'm betting on DC showing up better than ever and IMO, that is enough to beat Jones. If he didn't gas the first time he might've beat jones. He was fucking Jones up in the clinch in the 2nd and 3rd round with those uppercuts and dirty boxing and as the gus fight showed, DC has only got a hell of a lot better at that since then.

      We'll see though. The fact that DC didn't fight at his best the first time is kind of a bad sign. He might choke under the pressure again. I don't think he will, but hey, that's why they fight

      +Hugo Stiglitz the reason he was gassed was because Jon kneed him in the stomach. Jon Jones' eye pokes can really play a factor. It sounds crazy but JBJ keeps his arm out so if you rush in to close the distance you will run into his fingers. It's a dirty tactic but he used it against Rampage and it seemed pretty effective.
