On this edition of The MMA H.E.A.T. Podcast, Karyn Bryant and UFC Welterweight Alan Jouban discuss Welterweight Champ Tyron Woodley’s majority decision win over Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson in their rematch at UFC 209. They also share their heartbreak over the Lightweight Interim Title fight that didn’t take place after Khabib Nurmagomedov suffered weigh-cutting issues and left Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson without a fight. Karyn and Alan also react to Rashad Evans’ loss to Dan Kelly, Alistair Overeem’s KO of Mark Hunt and more from UFC 209. In addition, they look forward to #UFCFortaleza, where Kelvin Gastelum meets Vitor Belfort in the main event, and Beneil Dariush also battles Edson Barboza.

  1. It would be terrible if Khabib goes the way of what could of been. Fighters, now more than ever should be living all year round with a nutritionist if they want to fight three weight divisions below their walk around weight. Think about it Hendricks walks around about 210lbs. and tortured himself to make weight until he had to be hospitalized for missing weight several times in a row. Other notables Anthony Johnson, and I am sure we can come up with more top of the food chain talent. smh

  3. Khabib's dad apparently told a different story. He said Khabib was overweight coming into fight week. He also said Khabib and his team lied to him about Khabib's weight. He said that it could be down to "arrogance" and/or "carelesness" (translator's words not mine)

  5. Awesome podcast as always. My first thought was LOL! SOB! I cant believe Khabib and Tony didnt fight. We all knew it was the main event. My real first thought was wow! Karyn, Kenny, Brian, and Megan are going to have a fun time explaining this one. I had to look up what Khabib weighed for UFC 205 vs Micheal Johnson. He was 156 lbs. Does that mean he was 150 lbs? I had to rewind it twice just to make sure I understood what Megan was saying. it was drama watching the offical weigh in on mmafighting.com's facebook page. The press was trying to fight out which fight was getting promoted. Karyn instgramming her line up sheet that had all the fights was the first time most of us knew Amanda Cooper vs Cynthia Calivillo was getting promoted from curtain jerker to PPV. Dana and the UFC felt like they needed Khabib to fight Tony even if he was on his death bed. Why would they put Tyron vs Stephen as the main event if most of us felt like Khabib and Tony was main event. It was given 5 rounds to get more sales out of the pay per view and because of the games Conor is playing. Who knows if or when he will defend the Lightweight Strap. We need 1 more fight for UFC 210 pay per view main card. Only 4 fights are confirmed as it was shown during the post show. After Alan fights, the UFC is on a 2 week break until UFC 210- DC vs Rumble II. Felt like Tyron was scared of Stephen. He pretty much is admitting he needed the judges. He wants to be the best welterweight champion in history. Not with this performance. Hope Alan can crack the top 15 when he beats Gunnar Nelson who is #9.

  7. I truly don't understand why everyone wants to blame the boring fight all on Tyron. He was in the ring with another opponent who was boring as heck as well. Steven didn't do anything spectacular either.

  9. Man woodley could have finished wonderboy but he just doesn't pull the trigger. I don't know why he was so afraid of wonderboys striking. Its good but tbh robbie lawler was more dangerous. Wonder boy never presses the action like Rory MacDonald does so he never was really going to touch woodley.

    • 03blaird i agree he could've he just is too big for Wonderboy but he let Wonderboy put more points on the table and hes lucky the judges were either discouraged by wb's shitty performance or afraid to be called "racist" and gave it to him..hell even the main guy over the judges appeared at press conference to do damage control and admitted they fucked up the score .that's never happened they knew they fucked up…..When robin black Dan hardy ,bas rutten, a good friend of woodleys and dana white along with a panel of fellow fighters 2/3 black btw believe you lost and 3/4 of the mma community say you lost …..you definitely lost lol

    • not sure where you get these statistics that a 2/3 black fellow figher panel and 3/4 of entire mma community thought wonderboy won (i dont think that is at all the case but happy to be proven wrong) – but bottom line is round 2 could have been given to either fighter (go watch it) – so what do you have? round 1 and 3 to wonderboy by the narrowest of margins (neither of them did shit but woodley somehow managed to do a bit LESS) and 3 and 5 to woodley by wide margin…. rather than making up stats out of thin air, why dont you apply some logic to why you think wonderboy won the fight .. also 1) clearly under the new rules this was either a draw OR woodley won (so under new rules – in no scenario would wonderboy have won), 2) accross the whole 25 min fight (if you viw it as one long round) woodley landed more strikes and significant strikes (this is a fact – go look it up), and 3) at NO point was woodley hurt but wonderboy almost had the fight stoped on him….lastly, wonderboy is the challenger – and the better striker – and the person with longer reach – so shouldnt he be trying to do something (and no – jsut following someone around for 22 mins until that person knocks you our isnt "doing something")…..i like wonderboy more (both his fight style and his personality) but i remain confused about how anyone actually has strong feelings that he did enough to be crowned the champion in that fight…..

    • Ninja Pirate None. It's very likely actually. He was talking in a interview saying how he was scared to lose his record. He was talking how he was nervous which is normal but when he has a history of somehow not getting to the cage you just have to believe he backed out. Anytime you go to dr while cutting weight they will not be cool with it so you go to ufc dr and they have the goal in mind still..He wanted out.He got out
